Electronic Theses and Dissertations (ETDs)
IMPORTANT: Not all the information contained on the ETD site pertains to doctoral students at The University of Texas at Austin. For specific requirements on submission and publishing refer to Graduation Guidelines and Deadlines for the semester you are graduating. An electronic (or digital) thesis or dissertation is, like a conventional thesis or dissertation, a document that explicates the research of a graduate student. It is developed in a form which is simultaneously suitable for machine archives and worldwide retrieval.

If you have questions after reviewing the documents contained on this site you may contact a degree evaluator in the Office of Graduate Studies.
Graduating doctoral students at The University of Texas at Austin, beginning with the summer semester of 2001, are required to publish an electronic copy of their dissertation. Beginning with the spring semester of 2004, master's theses may be submitted in electronic form to the Office of Graduate Studies. Unlike doctoral students, master's students are not required to publish their electronic version.
This ETD site provides resources for preparing ETDs. For official university regulations regarding submission procedures and deadline dates see the Graduate School forms page and find the Graduation Guidelines and Deadlines for the semester you will be submitting your thesis or dissertation. Doctoral students should also print a copy of the Checklist for Final Submission of Dissertation or Treatise to ensure they submit all the required forms to the Office of Graduate Studies.
