Project - Retiring CCWF Accounts

CCWF provides access to Unix Timeshare services and was one of the original computing services provided to the university community for e-mail, Web publishing, and data storage. Information Technology Services (ITS) is in the process of retiring CCWF accounts because the services CCWF provides are also available through more current  ITS services.

The timeline for retiring CCWF accounts is as follows:

  • April 15, 2008 - CCWF account holders with inactive or unused accounts are notified that their accounts will be retired.
  • May 5, 2008 - All inactive or unused accounts will be permanently retired.
  • Beginning May 12, 2008, and continuing through summer 2008 - Active CCWF account holders will notified that the service is being retired and will be encouraged to transition and close their accounts. Departmental account sponsors will be notified of any active accounts that they sponsor.
  • Fall 2008 (exact date TBD) - All CCWF accounts will be permanently retired.

Do I Have a CCWF Account? Do I Sponsor CCWF Accounts?

ITS is in the process of sending e-mail notices to all CCWF account holders and account sponsors. If you have not received an e-mail, you can check your account status online:

Alternatively, you have a CCWF account if you:

  • Have an e-mail address that ends in @ccwf.cc.utexas.edu.
  • Use the host ccwf.cc.utexas.edu to store files.
  • Use an SSH client to interactively log in to ccwf.cc.utexas.edu.
  • Have a Web page that starts with http://ccwf.cc.utexas.edu.

Logging in to Your CCWF Account

Before closing your CCWF account, you may need log on to your account to download important files or forward your e-mail to another account.

If you don't know your CCWF account password, contact the ITS Help Desk for assistance. Only the Help Desk can reset your CCWF account password for you.

If you know your CCWF password, you can log in to your account Using Secure FTP with a UTS Account using a PC or Using Secure FTP with a UTS Account using a Mac. Be sure to use ccwf.cc.utexas.edu for the Host Name.

Choosing an Alternative Service

If you actively use your CCWF account, ITS recommends that you choose from our other services that provides support for your most-used features.

The UTS service most closely matches your current CCWF account. Use the ITS Computer Account Services page to sign up for an Individually Funded (IF) UTS account, or ask your departmental account sponsor to obtain a departmental account for you using the Technical Resource Account Control (TRAC) system.

Choosing an alternative service depends on what features you need:
