Premium UT (Exchange) E-mail

Current Project

Exchange at No Cost

As of September 1, 2008, ITS will offer Premium e-mail and calendar accounts, also known as Austin Exchange Messaging Service (AEMS) accounts, to faculty and staff at no cost. Students will no longer be able to request an AEMS account unless they are sponsored by a department.

Benefits

Benefits to faculty and staff who chose to adopt the service include:

  • Regular and automatic back up of e-mail and calendar entries
  • Increased e-mail security

Benefits to departmental IT staff whose customers chose to adopt the service include:

  • Staff and resources freed to address department-specific issues
  • Enterprise-level architecture

Goals of the Project

The primary goal of this project is to bring cost savings to the departments by eliminating redundant services across campus and allowing departmental IT staff to focus on services specific to their areas. Adoption of AEMS is voluntary.

Other goals include:

  • Comprehensive service and support for all faculty and staff who choose to adopt
  • Decreasing potential obstacles to service adoption
  • Improving the usability of the account sign-up and maintenance pages

New Features

  • Base service at no cost, including 200 megabytes (MB) default mailbox size
  • Additional disk storage price reduced to $7 per gigabyte (GB) per year
  • New Web interface for signing up and managing AEMS accounts
  • Increased overall AEMS hardware capacity to allow for new accounts and service expansion
