A Message from the Associate Dean of Student Affairs

It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the Student Division, the home of Student Affairs in the College of Liberal Arts. Our office is made up of a dedicated and talented staff of academic advisors, administrative staff, and peer advisors, all working together as a cohesive team to support the students of the College of Liberal Arts. Our office works in many ways to meet the challenging needs of our students: talking one-one-one with students to help them find solutions to their academic and personal needs; planning events that range from the laid-back celebration of Gone to Texas to the decorum of commencement; and processing thousands of forms, paperwork, and requests in a timely and accurate manner.

All of our staff are called upon to use their many talents and do more than their title might imply. Our advisors not only see students, but also work on committees strategically focused on specific issues; our administrative staff not only see to the practical needs of the office, but also work to engage students in creative and original ways; our peer advisors not only work the front desk, but also find solutions and solve problems.

With a staff as committed as this, we look forward to another great year. And we hope to continue making Liberal Arts one of the best colleges in the nation.

Mission

The mission of the Student Division of the College of Liberal Arts is to provide personalized guidance and support to students throughout their University experience. By facilitating the timely graduation of liberal arts students while upholding the policies and procedures of our College, we ensure the academic integrity of our degree programs as well as the values and reputation of The University.

As members of the Student Division, we advocate for students when appropriate, provide assistance in attaining their academic goals, and act as liaisons to the professional and academic community. We respect individual differences and encourage self-reliance in students. Though students deserve and need our support, they must assume ultimate responsibility for their academic and personal success.

In all its activities, the Student Division encourages student commitment to critical thinking and effective communication and to a culture of excellence, leadership, and personal responsibility, so that they may serve as catalysts for change in a dynamic world.  We accomplish these goals by working together as a team that incorporates and values the various skills and talents of each staff member while creating a workplace that fosters personal and professional growth.
