Liberal Arts Grants Services

Our Mission:

The Office of Research strives to advance the educational mission of the College of Liberal Arts by providing the infrastructure that faculty, graduate students, and academic units within the College need in order to fund, conduct, and disseminate compelling and innovative research. Research by College faculty and students exemplifies our contribution to the people of Texas, to the academic community in the nation and beyond, and to the development of human knowledge in the humanities and the social sciences.  Strong research is critical to the education we provide to our undergraduate and graduate students; indeed, a successful research mission is inseparable from our educational mission.

To carry out our research mission, our staff of grants professionals identifies opportunities for faculty and graduate students and coordinates collaboration with research sponsors and partners. We facilitate the participation of faculty and graduate students in grant and fellowship competitions inside the University of Texas, at the state and national levels, and internationally, with a commitment to assuring compliance with all regulatory requirements.

Services:

  • We are your connection to the Office of Sponsored Projects (OSP) and the University Development Office (UDO). We will assist you in submitting research proposals through OSP and in clearing contacts with foundations through UDO.
  • Help identifying federal and foundation funding opportunities for faculty, graduate students, centers and departments in the College of Liberal Arts
  • Grant proposal support including editing and budget help designed to persuade federal and foundation reviewers
  • Workshops for faculty and graduate students to develop grant seeking and grant writing skills

We are here to support you, but we often receive a high volume of requests. To make sure every request gets the full attention it deserves, we ask that you adhere to the following timeline when contacting our office:

  • Please notify us of your plans to submit a proposal 3 weeks in advance of the sponsor's deadline by submitting a Proposal Review Form [PDF]. We need drafts of all proposal materials no later than 7-10 business days before the sponsor deadline.
  • If you would like us to develop a list of potential funders for your own research or for a center or department, turnaround generally takes 5-7 days. However, cultivating new funding sources is a long-time commitment.
  • Plan on spending a minimum of 1-2 months reviewing potential funders. If you have a foundation or list of foundations you would like to approach for support, we need 5-7 business days to review your list and obtain UDO clearance.

Don’t hesitate to contact us with questions, whether you’re just beginning your search or ready to submit a proposal. We look forward to working with you!
