Biography
Caity is a PhD student in the Department of Sociology. She is interested in qualitative studies of gender, family, and work, both in the U.S. and abroad. Specifically, her research examines the ways various social institutions – such as the state, the workplace, and the family – alleviate or perpetuate gender inequality. Her master’s thesis investigated how women in Germany experience motherhood and employment given the presence of generous work-family policies. Caity is extending this research into Sweden during summer 2013. Her last project explored childhood and divorce as it relates to gender, familial relationships, and material culture.
