Welcome to the Department of Sociology

We are among the largest and highest ranked sociology departments in the country. According to the 2011 US News and World Report Guide to Graduate Departments our program was ranked 7th among public universities and tied for 14th among all universities.

Our 43 tenured or tenure-track faculty offer undergraduates and graduate students a wide range of educational and research opportunities.  Our strong scholarly reputation and Austin's rich quality of life attract leading early-career and senior sociologists and top-notch graduate students to call UT-Austin home.
