Summer Assignments

In order to successfully create TA/AI summer assignments, you have two options:

  1. Modify the existing pooled TA/AI positions to change the funding accounts (from the –02 sub in the long session to the –04 sub in the summer session) for the summer dates.
  2. Create separate positions for TA/AI assignments set up specifically for summer.

There are pros and cons to each scenario and each unit can decide what is best for them.   In most cases creating new positions, will be the more efficient way to go.  However, if your unit has a large number of TA/AI re-assignments during the summer session perhaps it would be easier to modify the funding/dates on a position and have EIDs pull to your reassignment document. This can be set up once for up to five years in advance.

One thing that is very important:  please submit the “Modify Position” document prior to creating pooled summer assignments.  A “Modify” and an “Assign” document can not be in process at the same time, so get this set up now before you begin doing assignments.

For remarks, please continue to include:  Course ID, Unique, and supervising faculty member.   For new TA/AI employees, please also include whether or not the student will continue in the fall for 20 hours/ 4 1/2 months in order for HRS to determine benefit eligibility.  Rates will not change for the summer session, you will use the 2009-10 TA/AI rates.

Note: the Payroll deadline for appointments with a begin date of June 1st is June 17th.  Additional payroll deadlines are available off their website listed below.
